Last night’s American Music Awards were full of surprises, like when Lady Gaga rode in on a manmade horse and later had a Marilyn Monroe moment with R. Kelly as JFK in a replica of the Oval Office. And when host Pitbull performed with Ke$ha on a Latin hoedown song. Or when Rihanna purposely left her wrap bobby-pinned up (called a Dominican ‘doobie’) while accepting the first-ever Icon Award. The celebrity looks were what was most memorable, like Rihanna’s hair or Miley’s high-rise cat bikini. Check out our 30 picks of the most memorable red carpet and onstage looks from the 2013 AMAs:

But later Miley performed “Wrecking Ball” in a custom-made cat bikini designed by Markus Lupfer, while the cat behind her cried.
